The National FlyFishing in Schools Program is a nationwide, in school program, that teaches the positive lifetime activity of flyfishing to students in grades 6-12.  NFFSP teaches students how to cast a fly rod in the school gym while they also learn about fish, insects, aquatic resources, resources stewardship and conservation.

NFFSP works in cooperation with state education and fish and wildlife agencies and a network of groups interested in teaching our youth how to fly fish in schools.

The NFFSP's curriculum, "Cast A Fly...Catch A Student", was specifically created to address a broad and inclusive framework of National Academic Standards.  The foundation course is designed to be taught over 10 days and meets 4 such standards: Language Arts, Physical Education, Science and Technology.

One ingredient that makes the program effective is the unique CasTarget system.  These photorealistic targets provide teachers with educational tools that make teaching the curriculum effective, fun and engaging.  NFFSP provides all the necessary tools to empower the teacher/school/district to implement "FlyFishing in Schools": curriculum, equipment, training and support.

NFFSP makes gaining the skills of flyfishing easy-to-learn, easy-to-administer and easy-to-teach.  The curriculum is positive for both student and teacher and it also leads to:

  • moderate to vigorous physical activity
  • better understanding & respect for the outdoors
  • increased awareness of our environment & natural resources
