The NFFSP Pilot Program is being
conducted in the state of Nebraska.
It is being provided in
partnership with the Lincoln Public Schools and the
Nebraska Department of Education. Following review and
evaluation of these
11 pilot schools, the National Program will
launch in 2010. The National FlyFishing in Schools Program:
- Follows the proven “archery in schools” system
- Conducts a Pilot Program with a
limit of 11 schools for the
first full school year; review results; evaluate and make
adjustments; then proceed with the nationwide program in 2nd
school year and beyond.
- Provides curriculum & equipment
tailored to:
- “Middle School" - grades 6, 7 & 8
- “High School" - grades 9, 10, 11
- "College &
University"
- Cooperates with the state fish & wildlife outdoor
education agencies, state education agencies and the outdoor industry.
- Secures funding through the
FlyFishing Education Foundation (FFEF) to support a grant
mechanism for schools to acquire the "FlyFishing in Schools"
program for their middle school, high school, college or
university.
- NFFSP will host a national, annual “Fly Fishing Fair”
for students, parents, families, teachers, etc., for a
competitive event. Such event to include flycasting events
both indoors and outdoors. Tentative date and location is Spearfish, South Dakota, July,
2011.
